Now please understand that I am not endorsing that anyone try out compulsive hand washing, but I am saying that most hand soaps can dry out our skin even with regular usage. So for those of us who enjoy a frequent lathering, you can only imagine how dry our hands can get!
Over the years, I've tried lots of DIY hand lotions and many of them are way too greasy or leave my hands feeling like they are coated in something. No bueno! Over the last few months I've been on a mission to find a hand cream that is both non-greasy and more luxurious, but is also inexpensive and easy to make.
(Make one 4 oz recipe)
- 1/4 cup Organic Coconut Oil
- 1/4 c Shea Butter
- 1/2 tsp Beeswax Pellets
- 1 TBSP Jojoba Oil (Cold Pressed)
- 1 TBSP Rose Water
- 1/4 tsp Glycerine Vegetable
- 3 drops of Vitamin E Skin Oil
- 10 drops of Lavender essential oil (I recommend this brand)
- Optional: Add 2-4 drops of Frankincense to increase the strength of finger nails (I recommend this brand)
Melt the coconut oil, Shea butter and beeswax over a double boiler. When melted, remove from heat and add the other ingredients. (I like to have them premixed in a bowl so the mixture doesn't start to harden while I add each individual ingredient).
If you've used rosewater with a preservative this cream should last about 4-6 months. Store it in the fridge for a longer shelf life.
I hope you love this as much as I do! Enjoy! :)
