Do you have a love-hate relationships with your garbage disposal? Wanna join my club? Seriously, what is more annoying than a garbage disposal that tries to attack you with stinky water every time you turn it on?
I'm a big believer in offense when it comes to most kitchen situations, don't you? I mean isn't it better to prevent stinky water attack than trying to fix it after the sudden onset of the deadly kitchen geyser? I think we can agree on that.
Homemade Garbage Disposal Cleaning Cubes
Keeping your garbage disposal fresh is easy! It can take just a few minutes every couple of months to make this DIY and then about 15 seconds a week to keep it up!
- 1 cup of white vinegar
- 12 drops of essential oil (I use Lemon and Purification)
- Optional: herbs or citrus rind
Just pour the white vinegar into the ice cube tray, add 1 drop of your favorite essential to each "cleaning cube" and any additional garnish you'd like. Place them in the freezer until solid (1-2 hours) and then they are ready to use.
Just put one in your garbage disposal every 5-7 days to help keep the ick away!
Tough Job?
Occasionally I like to pour a "generous" amount of baking soda in my drain (with a few drops of
Purification) and pour enough vinegar to get it bubbling. After about 10 minutes, I pour some hot water down the drain and run the disposal to flush it all out.
With these tricks, I hope helps keep your kitchen smelling fresh and amazing!
